About Prepared American
Calm, tested, independent preparedness — for families, not bunkers.
Prepared American started with a simple frustration. Every time we went looking for honest guidance on getting our own households ready for an emergency, we hit the same two walls: fear-driven marketing built to sell five-figure bunkers and buckets of food nobody enjoys, or thin "best of" lists written by people who clearly never took the product out of the box. Neither helped a normal family figure out what to actually do on a normal weekend.
So we built the resource we wished existed. We're a small, independent team of preparedness-minded people — parents, neighbors, ordinary folks — who believe being ready for a bad day is practical, affordable, and genuinely calming once you start. Not doom. Not politics. Just the boring, useful work of making sure your family has water, light, power, food, a way to communicate, and a plan when the grid blinks out.
What we cover
We focus on the categories that matter most when something goes wrong, and we go deep on each one rather than chasing every shiny gadget:
- Go-bags and evacuation — what to pack, what to cut, and how to grab it in seconds.
- Backup power — battery stations, solar, and generators, with honest watt-hour math.
- Water — how much you really need, how to store it, and how to make questionable water safe.
- Food — a rotating supply built from what you already eat, with no waste.
- Communication — staying connected when the cell network fails.
- First aid — moving from a basic kit toward real readiness (and why training comes first).
- Planning & drills — the family habits that turn a scary outage into a boring evening.
How we work
We buy most of what we test with our own money, use it for weeks, and pressure-test it in real conditions — actual outages and self-imposed blackout drills in our own homes. When something underperforms, we say so. When a whole category isn't worth your money, we tell you to skip it. You can read the full method on our how we test page.
What we are — and what we're not
We are dedicated preparedness enthusiasts and careful, methodical testers. We are not emergency-services personnel, paramedics, doctors, or survival instructors, and nothing here is medical, legal, or professional advice. Our guides can help you choose reliable gear and build a sensible plan, but they can't replace hands-on training. We'll always point you toward the real thing — a first-aid course, your local emergency-management resources, the manufacturer's instructions — and in any genuine emergency, the first step is to call 911.
Prepared American is published by Oathill Media LLC. If you have a tip, a correction, or a category you'd like us to cover, we'd genuinely like to hear it — reach us any time at our contact page.
